Diecast scales explained: 1:18, 1:24, 1:32 and 1:64

The scale number on a diecast model tells you how much smaller it is than the real car. Here is a quick guide to choosing the right one for your shelf.

1:18, big and detailed

Around 25 to 30 cm long. Opening bonnets, boots and detailed engines are common. Best for a few special pieces.

1:24, the balance

Around 18 to 22 cm. Plenty of detail while still easy to display in numbers.

1:32, perfect for a growing collection

Around 14 to 16 cm. Many 1:32 models have opening doors, lights and sound, and they fit well on standard shelves.

1:64, pocket size

Around 7 cm. Great for kids and for building large themed collections.

Which should you pick?

Choose one scale for a display so the cars look right next to each other. If you are starting out, 1:32 gives the most detail for the price.
